The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) is proud to announce that each of the six winners’ teachers of the competition will receive a cash prize of ₦100,000 as a token of recognition for their outstanding performance.
In addition to the individual prizes, commemorative plaques will also be awarded to the schools represented by the winning students. These plaques serve as a symbol of appreciation and recognition for the school’s efforts in nurturing excellence among its students.
The winning students will be presented with these plaques on behalf of their respective schools during the award ceremony.

The PENGASSAN National Essay Competition 2025 continues to uphold a tradition of excellence in nurturing critical thinking, creativity, and national consciousness among young Nigerians. This year, a total of 3,041 entries were received and meticulously reviewed across both web and email platforms by our esteemed panel of reviewers.
Web-Based Marking Summary
A total of 2,404 essays were reviewed through the web platform. Emmanuel Attah led the chart with 451 essays marked, followed by Emem Francis (399) and Dayo Joseph (325). Other notable contributions came from Naomi Humphrey (314), Ikechukwu Princewill (311), and Abraham Oriakhi (295), among others.
Email-Based Marking Summary
An additional 637 essays were assessed via email submissions. Amaka Nwachukwu led this stream with 265 scripts, followed by Temitayo Obafaiye (221) and Henryson Onyema (151).
Combined Total Marking (Web + Email = 3,041 Essays)

We appreciate the diligence, fairness, and attention to detail our panelists brought to the process. Their commitment ensured that every submission was carefully evaluated based on the competition’s standards.
Students who qualify for the second stage of the competition will be contacted between July 7 and July 13, 2025. We are excited about the depth and brilliance showcased in this year’s submissions and look forward to the next phase.

🏆 PENGASSAN National Essay Competition – 2025 Prize Structure
The PENGASSAN National Essay Competition 2025 opens for entries on Monday, May 19th, 2025, and will run for four weeks, with the submission deadline set for June 19th, 2025. There is no entry fee required. Marking will commence on June 20th, 2025, immediately after the submission period ends. All essays will be judged based on clarity of expression, spelling and grammar, originality of thought, depth of analysis, relevance to the oil and gas industry, and adherence to the competition rules. Participants are strongly encouraged to review the official Essay Competition Rules and Regulations before submitting their entries.
